Topical acne treatments are useful for mild-moderate acne affecting the face and body.

Creams, gels and washes often contain antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide or retinoids as their active ingredient.

They may target both come comedonal (rough and/or bumpy) and inflammatory (red and/or angry) types of acne and often take 2-3 months to take effect.

Some of these preparations can sting and/or bleach clothing so careful and gradual application is recommended.
